About Marmot

Marmot’s journey as a performance-driven outdoor gear company started in 1971, when a scrappy crew of Californian college students founded an outdoor club and began sewing sleeping bags in their dorm rooms. Their mission was simple: make functional gear so they could go play in the mountains.

Three years later, Marmot Mountain Works came to life. And over the following years and decades, the company grew, branching out with some of the industry’s earliest women-specific designs.

Today, the Marmot mission is unchanged. From great gear for hiking to gram-shaving designs for mountaineering, Marmot aims to make function-forward products, ethically and sustainably. Marmot is proud to use PFC-free materials, support fair labour standards around the world, and feature bluesign® approved fabrics.
