About ORTOVOX

In 1980, Gerald Kampel and Jürgen Wegner developed the first double frequency transceiver, letting rescuers find avalanche victims easier. Five years later, ORTOVOX introduced their first powder backpack. These two products went on to become iconic ORTOVOX staples still around today, showing the exceptional quality of ORTOVOX gear.

With over 40 years in the game, ORTOVOX is constantly upgrading their backcountry gear, creating high-tech ways to keep you safe on the mountain.

Gear for mountain safety

Developing and tweaking their tech since day one, ORTOVOX transceivers for backcountry skiing and mountain snowshoeing send out the strongest signal and cut the weakest to avoid confusion when there’s no time to waste. Their long-last batteries continue to work in frigid temps.

ORTOVOX backpacks for alpine climbing, mountaineering and alpine touring are constructed with burly yet lightweight material to resist snags on rocks and ridges, with a big main compartment for gear, food and hydration. They’re designed with lots of loops for storing your ice axe or trekking poles.

Protecting mountains and mountain-goers

ORTOVOX is committed to protecting the mountains and those who play on them by manufacturing products that are safe for humans and the environment with PFC-free solutions and reducing waste in production by recycling fabric scraps.

ORTOVOX believes that the most sustainable products are the ones we already own. They make durable and repairable gear, significantly extending the life of their products so there's less need to replace them.
