About Outdoor Research

Ron Gregg, a nuclear physicist, decided to devote his life to outdoor adventure the day a faulty pair of gaiters sent his friend to the hospital while climbing a glacier. As Ron headed back down the glacier without his friend, he realized he could solve this gear problem.

Outdoor Research was born from Ron’s research-led approach to problem solving and still holds true to their current gear that stands the test of time.

Technical and stylish

Whether you’re sitting out at camp on a sunny day or huddling from the wind in the middle of winter, Outdoor Research hats and toques offer wide brims to hide your head from UV rays, and fuzzy linings for chillier days.
