Rocksolid Guarantee

At MEC, we guarantee the quality of our products. If an item doesn’t meet your expectations, you can return it for an exchange, refund, or credit. This guarantee also applies to product selection advice. If the item you purchased based on our advice turns out to be unsuitable, you can bring it back.

  • Returns can be made free in-store.
  • Mail returns within Canada are subject to a flat-rate return shipping fee of $11 plus tax.

Mail-in returns

  • Online and in-store purchases can be returned by mail, following the steps for your purchase type outlined below.
  • A flat $11 + tax return shipping fee applies to all mail-in returns (deducted from your refund).

How to mail a return

Online orders (with a MEC account)

  1. Log into your account
  2. Click Orders
  3. Select Return Items against the portion of the order you'd like to return
  4. Follow the prompts

Online orders (guest checkout)

Start your return through the guest return portal.

Items purchased in store

Items purchased in store (including items ordered for you by a store team member) cannot be returned through our online returns service listed above.

International returns

  • Use insured ground shipping and mark the package as “Canadian Goods Returning”.
  • Include a return information form.
  • Avoid UPS or any carrier that may incur duties/fees.
  • Processing may take 5–10 days.

Record of purchase

Please keep a copy of your receipt or order confirmation. MEC will require proof of purchase to process your return for guest checkouts or non-member in-store purchases.

Can I return anything?

Almost. Items must be in resalable condition to be returned. This means that the products are either:

  • New and unused, or
  • Clean, used infrequently, and function like new
  • We don't accept returns for any of the items listed below

What can't be returned?

  • Worn-out items: Items that have reached the end of their practical lifespan due to normal use, accidents, or misuse cannot be returned.
  • Items past practical lifespan: MEC may refuse returns on items that are beyond their expected life, even if unused or undamaged.
  • Final sale items: Products sold as final sale cannot be returned, except when they’re defective or don’t match the description online.
  • Bear spray, food, and fuel: These are final sale.
  • Hygiene products: Face masks, socks, sanitary devices, and undergarments (including swimwear, bike chamois, and underwear) are not eligible for returns unless they are unworn, unused, and have original tags or packaging intact.
  • Electronics: Electronics (e.g., GPS, cameras, bike trainers) can be returned within 90 days of purchase.
  • E-bikes (BC Electric Bike Rebate Program): E-bikes purchased under this program cannot be returned for a refund, but can be exchanged for an equal or higher value e-bike.

What about special orders or corporate sales?

  • Special orders and corporate sales: These cannot be returned unless deemed returnable under the manufacturer’s warranty.
  • As-is items: Items bought from gear swaps, yard sales, or rental sell-offs cannot be returned.
  • PayPal purchases: PayPal returns are refunded to the original PayPal account within 365 days of purchase. After 365 days, the refund is given as an MEC gift card.

PayPal and Klarna returns

PayPal Returns

  • If the item is eligible for return, you can return it to MEC Customer Care for a refund to the original PayPal account within 180 days of purchase.
  • After 180 days, the refund will be issued via MEC gift card.
  • PayPal returns can now be refunded in-store.

Klarna Returns

  • If eligible, Klarna returns can be processed in-store and refunded to either your MEC gift card or the credit card linked to your Klarna account.
  • Ensure your Klarna loan is fully paid after receiving the refund.

Quebec availability guarantee

For Residents of Quebec: Mountain Equipment Company and third-party sellers on mec.ca do not guarantee the availability of replacement parts, repair services, or maintenance and repair information for any products within the meaning of the Quebec Consumer Protection Act.
