About Rab

In 1973, Scottish climber and globetrotting mountaineer Rab Carrington was enroute to Patagonia for a climbing trip. But his climbing equipment was still back in the UK – and due to a shipping strike, not leaving anytime soon. Unable to start the expedition without his gear, Rab stayed in Buenos Aires, got a job at a textile factory owned by a friend, and learned how to sew sleeping bags. After years of climbing in the Himalayas, Patagonia and the Alps, Rab was no stranger to extreme weather or harsh conditions. His earliest designs reflected the pure pragmatism needed in alpine environments. In 1981, Rab founded his namesake company out of his attic back in the UK.
